Suzanne Valadon

On IWD 2022 we celebrated the French 20th-century female artist Suzanne Valadon. She has a special place in Validarte’s founding journey.

First woman to exhibit at the Société Nationale des Beaux-Art her climb to success has notoriously been one thwarted by her male counterparts.

She challenged social norms, and redefined accepted notions of gendered identity. But, above all else she strove to overcome inequalities in life and in art. Themes and tropes in her paintings respond to socio-political issues, whilst questioning established values, histories, ways of thinking and living. Valadon’s passion for art and the transformational role it has in contributing to social change are values we share at Validarte. Delivering social and societal impact, using art as the instrument is central to our mission.
